What "receiving SMS online" means
A virtual number is a provider-supplied phone number used here to receive text messages. There is no physical SIM to insert. If an SMS reaches the assigned number during the activation, it is shown in your order in the web app or Telegram.
The practical consequence is that you can complete a phone-verification step without handing over your personal number, and without needing a SIM from the country a platform expects you to be in.
The five steps, start to finish
First, pick the service you need to verify. Each service sets its own eligibility and virtual-number rules, so check them before ordering.
Second, pick an eligible country. Third, request the number; an available number is assigned, or the order may queue. Fourth, paste it into the service and trigger its "send code" button. Fifth, wait for the order card to show any SMS that reaches the number. Delivery time varies by the sending service, carrier, and upstream network.
The step people skip is the fourth one. A virtual number is not listening for a code that was never sent: if you request a number and then never trigger the platform to text it, nothing will arrive, and the number simply expires.
Choosing an eligible country
Acceptance varies by service and can change without notice. The displayed price reflects current product, country, upstream cost, and availability; it is not a measure or guarantee of acceptance.
Choose a country permitted by the service and consistent with the account details you provide. If no code arrives, check the number format and use the resend, replacement, country-switch, or cancellation actions shown on the order.
What a temporary number should not be used for
Use a temporary number for one-time sign-up codes. Do not use one as the recovery number on an account you intend to keep, and do not use one for banking, payments, or anything holding money or identity documents.
The reason is simple: the number is not permanently yours. Once an activation ends, the number returns to the pool and may later serve someone else. Any account whose password reset routes to that number would then be recoverable by a stranger. For anything you plan to keep, verify with a number you control permanently — or rent one for the whole period you need it.
How the cost should work
The honest pricing model for one-time codes is to charge on delivery. You reserve the price when you take the number, and you are billed only if a code actually arrives; if no code is delivered during the activation, the reservation is released and you pay nothing.
That is how our numbers are billed, and it is worth checking before you top up anywhere: a service that charges the moment a number is issued is charging you for its own failures as well as its successes.
